Stuart Girdler

Stuart Girdler is a cornerstone of the Swindon Avalanche B Team, known for his consistency and unwavering dedication. As an Assistant Captain, Stuart leads by example, ensuring the team stays focused and prepared for every challenge. James Turner

James Turner is the heart and soul of the Swindon Avalanche B Team, serving as our Captain and leading by example both on and off the ice. A true leader, James inspires his teammates with unmatched determination, skill, and an unwavering commitment to the game.

As Captain, James brings a winning combination of experience and passion, motivating the team to push harder and aim higher. His ability to lead by action and rally the team in critical moments makes him an invaluable part of the Avalanche’s success.

Whether it’s setting the pace during games, supporting teammates, or guiding the team through challenges, James embodies what it means to wear the “C” with pride.

Paul Best

Paul Best is the experienced and strategic Bench Coach for the Swindon Avalanche B Team. With a sharp eye for the game and a calm presence behind the bench, Paul plays a vital role in ensuring the team stays focused and ready to thrive on game day.

Whether it’s offering tactical advice, making in-the-moment adjustments, or providing motivation when it’s needed most, Paul’s expertise is an invaluable asset to the team. His dedication to supporting the players and his passion for the sport make him a key figure in the Avalanche’s success.

Paul’s experience and strategic approach help the team navigate the highs and lows of competition, ensuring they always give their best on the ice.

Jamie Daniel Cooper

Jamie Daniel Cooper, affectionately known as “Coops,” is the enthusiastic and dedicated Head Coach of the Swindon Avalanche B Team. New to coaching but bursting with passion for the game, Coops brings fresh energy and a commitment to learning and growing alongside the team.

With a focus on fostering teamwork and individual development, Coops is always eager to try new strategies and help players reach their full potential. His positive attitude and drive inspire the team both on and off the ice, creating an environment where everyone feels encouraged to improve and enjoy the game.

As he embarks on this coaching journey with the Avalanche, Coops is excited to face the challenges ahead and continue building a strong and united team. His enthusiasm and leadership make him an integral part of the Avalanche family!

Chris Main

Chris Main is the backbone of the Swindon Avalanche B Team, serving as our dedicated Team Manager. With a passion for organization and making sure everything runs smoothly, Chris takes care of all the essential tasks behind the scenes. From scheduling games and arranging kit supplies to prioritizing player safety, she ensures that the team is always prepared and ready to perform.

Her dedication and meticulous planning allow the players to focus on the ice while she handles the logistics. Whether it’s setting up matches, managing equipment, or implementing safety protocols, Chris’s hard work keeps the Avalanche operating seamlessly.

Chris’s leadership and commitment make her an invaluable part of the team, and we’re incredibly grateful for all that she does to support the Avalanche!

Amateur ice hockey team based in Sheffield, formed in 2022, open to players of all ability

Army All Stars B

The British Army currently has 6 recognised Ice Hockey teams: RE Sappers, RLC Chiefs, REME Stallions, Royal Signals, Infantry Ice Hockey and the Army All Stars. 3 of these teams have A and B sides. The Army All Stars represent all Cap Badges that do not currently have a stand-alone team. If you belong to one of these Corps/Regiments and would like to be involved playing Ice Hockey please message us and we can put you in touch with the relevant Coach/Manager. Point to note, The British Army BLADES and FURY are the Open and Women’s teams that are pooled from the best players in these teams.

The Army FURY were newly established in 2023, this fledgling team are drawing together experienced and new players keen to learn the sport of Ice Hockey. If you are interested in getting involved as a player, please contact the Army Women’s Ice Hockey Secretary.

Steven Stroud

Experience: 3 years with the Swindon Spitfires, returned in November 2024 after a 3-year gap

Steven Stroud is a skilled and passionate forward for the Swindon Avalanche B Team, capable of playing both winger and center positions. After an impressive 3 years with the Swindon Spitfires, Steven took a break but made a strong return to hockey in November 2024, reigniting his love for the game.

Inspired to start hockey by friends and the legendary Mighty Ducks films, Steven admires the creativity and skill of big NHL players. His hockey idols include Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, and Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks, all of whom fuel his drive to improve and excel on the ice.

Plays: Right-handed

Steven believes hockey is more than just a sport—it’s a great way to stay fit, connect with friends, and enjoy the thrill of the game. He wishes for more ice time but values every moment spent on the rink with his teammates.
